As per title really, car is a 99 323ci on 106k miles. Been sorn in the garage for 8 months, did an oil change last week but TBH the noisey tappets were there before the oil change. Its louder at start up but does go quieter, however it doesn't go away altogether. Is this an expensive fix.

TIA

Sell it near a main road or wait for a train to whizz by, disguise the noise Wink

Could be the hydraulic buckets, which there are 24 off, so could be expensive.

Probably find an oil change and a nice looooon run might help clear those lifters out.

Otherwise, remove them all, drain them, refill with clean oil and refit. Did that on my daughter's Corsa, and all was well afterwards. (Actually quite impressively quiet now at the top end.)

It's been sat around for months so maybe a good blast would help it.

The oil was changed last week.

I had the followers replaced under warranty by BMW on a 30K miles 328i. It'd only gone in for a service and I hadn't even noticed any noise!

They're about £20 each and as CC says, there are 24 of them.

I doubt BMW make their own, most major manufacturers buy from ENA who are about the biggest supplier worldwide, if you can buy them from a third party you will save some Poppy.
