MOT Saturday and it had an advisory for the nearside rear lower ball joint.

Looks an impossible job without the tool. I'm in no rush as I'm off on my hols next week but I thought I'd ask you guys if anyone has one for hire.

This is the bush I need to change

So really you need a void bush tool, not the ball joint splitter?

Looks like this but there are many different versions that do the same job.

This is a Sealey one

That's a void or non void bush removal tool, Smile nothing like a ball joint tool DD, use a socket and a length of stud.

I've seen some people describe it as a ball joint or a bush.

I'll change the thread title.

Would rather have the correct tool or someones own DIY version that I know will work rather than me cocking things up with my own version. Very Happy

You can do it without. I managed to, but it involved a reasonable amount of swearing.

Perplexed by the advisory. Confused It's either shafted or it isn't.

Even dafter is the fact it was an advisory last year and the year before that according to previous MOT's and it was both sides Confused Shocked

Car feels fine, no clunks.

Some Indy's call them knuckle joints as well are ball joint bushes. Common indication of failure is when the car feels skittish when driving along.

I experienced this when doing above 50mph. Your car will feel like the rear keeps wanting to go sideways.

Well it should definitely have failed, then.

I paid a garage to do my second one (failed MOT), it was around £100, but I can't remember if that included the cost of the part or VAT.

Ive got a friendly MOT bloke, he showed me the movement and showed me underneath where the whole rear wheel area was covered in a rusty water type spray, obviously from the shagged part.
