Finally got a chance to give the car a good run down some dark snowy lanes tonight. It behaves really well, 10/10 to it for handling given patchy surface traction.
Headlamps aren't good enough though. Even with high beam and fogs, it's still just not good enough. How expensive is a rally lamp pod?!
This guy had a bit of backup:
I imagine there are insurance woes with those though.
Might have to keep my eyes open for some upgrades. Best fix that bearing first though. |

The E30 guys use a peugeot one, can't remember which, but I'll find out. |

What kind of bulbs does the E30 use?
Philips Vision Plus.
Genuinely the best £12 x2 I ever spent on the car. I know it won't compare to the xenons on the 330d or the retrofit you did to DUP, but it's still hugely better than stock.
Worth a shot until you do your HID conversion (or equivalent) imo. |

Certainly look similar but TIS suggests different part Nos:
E30:
6312138680(5/6)
E34:
6312139132(3/4)
With the nre laws coming in, any xenon retrofit would have to be easily swapped for MOT time. |

Never looked to be honest. I'm sure Ian will be along shortly!

That's a strong reference. I may just investigate... |

I've never been all that impressed with so called 'uprated' bulbs. I currently have Osram Silverstars in mine, and I guess they are better than bog standard bulbs, but not by a massive margin. Having a working wash/wipe system as also a big bonus at this time of year
You could do a lot worse than upgrading to a set of later E30 Ellipsoidal headlamps, as these are a lot better then the regular E30 ones you currently have.

I think you're missing the point of the E30 ethos. Aren't we supposed to get out and piss on the lamps if they're dirty?

Yes, I have a feeling a second set of lamps will come in reason for a variety of reasons. I'll keep an eye open. |
